Dan Udoh's 11th goal of the season saw Shrewsbury secure a deserved draw at Charlton - with that point enough to retain our League One status.

In what was an entertaining game at The Valley, Paul Hurst's side dominated the first half and went into the break with a deserved lead thanks to Dan's second goal in as many games.

Charlton levelled shortly after the re-start through George Dobson. 

But Town were more than worthy of their point - with that enough to secure our League One status after Cheltenham were beaten by Lincoln.

Boss Paul Hurst opted to name the same team that put in an impressive performance to secure a point at Bolton on Tuesday.

Sticking with a 3-5-2 formation, Joe Anderson, Chey Dunkley and Morgan Feeney made up the back three with Tunmise Sobowale and Mal Benning at wing-back.

In midfield, Carl Winchester and Elliott Bennett operated just behind Jordan Shipley with Dan Udoh and Tom Bloxham the front two.

Charlton also lined up in a 3-5-2 system with Alfie May partnered by Connor Wickham in attack.

Fresh from that impressive performance at Bolton, Town ran out at The Valley and twice came close to opening the scoring inside the opening 20 minutes.

First, a clever corner routine saw Shipley whip in a dangerous cross that Feeney nodded across goal.

From close range, Sobowale then sent a header crashing against the post.

Then just moments later, Bennett stung the palms of goalkeeper Harry Isted with a free-kick from just outside the box.

That meant - when we opened the scoring midway through the half - it was a lead that was very much deserved.

The goal arrived after Sobowale found Bloxham with a clever ball down the line - with Tom then sending in a low cross.

And Udoh then did outstandingly well to side-step two defenders before nestling the ball in the bottom corner.

Hurst's men were well on top and they threatened again just past the half-hour mark when Benning was inches away from connecting a cross/shot from Shipley.

Charlton had offered very little but they did create one chance before the break when Alfie May hit the byline before looking to catch out Marko Marosi with a clever lob.

The keeper, though, managed to get a touch on the ball with Feeney then hacking clear from just in front of the goal line.

The hosts were always likely to improve following the re-start.

But it took them less than a minute to pull level with Dobson getting in behind the Town defence before rounding Marosi and firing in.

Just two minutes later and the Addicks were almost ahead with Conor Coventry sending a shot from just inside the box narrowly wide. 

After that frantic start following the break, the game then settled down.

But Charlton created another big chance on the hour when Thierry Small stood up a cross that Karoy Anderson headed over.

Hurst made his first change with a little over 10 minutes to go with Ryan Bowman replacing Bloxham.

It saw Town shift to a 3-4-2-1 system with Udoh joining Shipley behind Bowman.

And they went on to see out the game superbly from that point - with that draw enough to retain our League One status.
